Funding Scans for Environmental Organizations
Securing funding for environmental work takes more than a Google search—it requires knowing where to look, how to align your programs with funder priorities, and which opportunities are truly worth your time. The New England Environmental Finance Center (NEEFC) offers a tailored Funding Scan service to help environmental and community-based organizations identify realistic, high-potential funding sources for their work.
Whether you’re launching a new project or strengthening an existing program, the Funding Scan connects you with the right mix of grants, loans, and philanthropic opportunities to advance your mission.
Step 1: Intake and Strategy Session
We begin with a forty-five minute intake call to understand your organization’s goals, priority projects, and funding needs. Together, we define search terms and criteria that reflect your work—from climate resilience to workforce development to environmental justice organizing.
Step 2: Initial Funding Landscape Review
Using the NEEFC Environmental Funding Navigator, we conduct a comprehensive scan of public and private funding opportunities that align with your priorities.
Step 3: Match Assessment
We review the initial results and categorize them as strong matches, moderate matches, or non-matches—saving you time by surfacing the best-fit opportunities.
Step 4: Peer Funder Research
To strengthen your pipeline, we research funders supporting peer organizations doing similar work, identifying additional grantmakers you may not be connected to.
Step 5: Curated Funding Recommendations
We complete a tailored list of recommended funders and opportunities, including:
- Suggested ask amounts
- Alignment notes showing how your work fits each funder’s priorities
- Timing guidance for upcoming application windows
- Strategic insights on funder trends
